A “Source” Says Rick Perry Is Running

Robin M., Care2 News

TX Governor Rick Perry

The governor had previously ruled out a run, but he picked up several top staffers after Newt Gingrich’s staff imploded and was said to be reconsidering.

So, are we really going to see a Rick Perry presidential run?  Yes, if the Daily Beast and the Wall Street Journal are to be believed.  According to the Daily Beast, who cites the Wall Street Journal, an “an informed Republican source” is certain that the Governor of Texas is going to be announcing later this summer, just in time for the Iowa straw poll in Ames.

But the Wall Street Journal report itself seems slightly less confident, stating that their source is usually reliable, but providing a lot of caveats from the Perry people themselves.  In fact, it sounds an awful lot like maybe that “reliable source” might actually be someone on the team floating the idea, in the hopes that it will create enough groundswell that Perry could ride it to an actual announcement, much as Indiana’s Mitch Daniels and New Jersey’s Chris Christie obviously sent of some “testing the waters” trial balloons themselves.

Then again, maybe that reliable source is Newt Gingrich.  After all, he’s already gone on the record as supporting a Perry campaign and possibly sharing some former staffers.  It’s not like Newt is planning on actually winning the endorsement.
