Despite Gallups poll release yesterday, the unemployment rate remains 9.6%

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the unemployment rate remains unchanged at 9.6%. Yesterday a Gallup Poll had the Unemployment rate at 10.1%.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics nonfarm payroll employment edged down (-95,000) in September, and the unem- ployment rate was unchanged at 9.6 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Sta- tistics reported today. Government employment declined (-159,000), reflec- ting both a drop in the number of temporary jobs for Census 2010 and job losses in local government. Private-sector payroll employment continued to trend up modestly (+64,000).

The number of unemployed remained at 14.8 million, virtually unchanged from last month. Major adult groups rates are as follows:

Men – 9.8 %, Women 8%, Teenagers 26%, Whites 8.6%, Blacks 16.1% and Hispanics 12.4%.
